At first, this was great. I upgraded a MacBook Pro 2015 Retina, and the expanded space was fantastic. It seemed to work perfectly....Until, one morning recently, the computer wouldn't wake or boot. I tried everything. It seemed the computer had died, but after more investigation it turned out to be the Transcend SSD. Gone. Kauput. Dead.I had to buy another small 128GB SSD just to make sure, put that in the same computer, and it booted right up.I also got an external usb SSD reader for Mac SSDs, it could not see the transcend. Before it died, things had slowed down somewhat, but I didn't realize the SSD was the cause. Seems like I'm not the only reviewer to encounter this defect.Very disappointed. I have never had an SSD fail so dramatically in many years of using over 20 of them. This one failed after just over a year. I will not be trusting my data, time and money to transcend in the future.UPDATEAfter further reading of the warranty page, it is clear that even if there was a way to return this via Amazon, they will not honor the warranty on the SSD without having the enclosure too. That obviates the point of the Jet Drive, which is to re-use the SSD that came out of the computer as an external drive - I didn't need that external drive, so I gave it away. That means that even though this thing died within a so-called "Manufacturer's Warranty," and I was using this for its advertised purpose (to upgrade the SSD in a Mac laptop), I am stuck.I would strongly recommend to stay away. For an SSD upgrade, there are much less pricey options, and probably more reliable too.Installed the 480GB on my Macbook Air Mid-2013. I installed it a bit different from the instructions and instead of cloning the drive, I wanted to clean format. I had to use the disk utility from an old Mavericks bootable USB since High Sierra wouldn't format APFS for some odd reason. I then swapped the drives, clean installed High Sierra and used the OSX migration assistant to copy every to my new hard drive which made it a breeze to get all my files copied over. The thunderbolt connection made it a speedy task.I've been going for two months strong so far and although it seems to run hot sometimes (as MacBooks tend to do anyway), haven't had any kernel panics or failures mentioned in the OWC SSD reviews.Works great, year 1/2 with this installed. Apple wanted $1300 to replace this drive when my original showed signs of issues. Could’ve bought a new computer for that price. This fixed my issues an gave me extra storage. Intial install was simple but there are some small things to do that require some legwork for full sync to update newer o.s versionsIf you are debating this question for your MacBook Air - Go with Transcend. I started with OWC and ran into so many issues I got another logic board. Had the same issues so got a Transcend Drive and it installed perfectly. On another MacBook Air I tried the old OWC drive with the same issues, BUT bought another OWC Drive because of price and availability, but still had install issues. I now use Transcend exclusively. I did get the OWC drives to take a High Sierra / Mojave Install but it took awhile and some figuring out.The drive and kit were delivered very quickly. Installation in my mid-2014 MBP was a breeze!! I plugged in the included Transcend enclosure and made a bootable clone of my internal drive using Chronosync. Swapping out the drives only took a few minutes. The new Transcend drive booted up right away and has been purring along ever since. No issues with overheating. Adding the extra storage saved me from having to buy a new laptop. Plus I can use the enclosure as a backup drive. As I said above, installation is simple and takes minutes. The longest part of the process is reinstalling your data from your back-up.Would love if they brought out a 10Tb version but, of such sweet things, dreams are made of.The drive works perfectly. Upgraded my 128 GB macbook pro hard drive. The aluminium casing is of very good quality. The only caveats are that the casing is thunderbolt 2 not 3 and the pricing is on the higher side.I am happy using Transcend JetDrive 825 - Thunderbolt PCIe Portable SSD - 960GB Black with my Macbook pro retina 13 inch early 2015 . very good productGreat Product and price from Amazon. Bought this to upgrade my Mac Book Pro 13 inch (early 2015) with 121gb. Instructions to install are included. As with previous reviews formatting this drive is really difficult. I was running High Sierra 10.13.6 but could not format the drive in disk utility as it failed as the drive could not be inverted to APFS. The only solution after reading the support pages of the manufacturer was to use third party software to clone my Macintosh HD which I was upgrading with the transcend. I used a software called carbon copy cloner. Once I cloned the hard drive it was pretty easy to install. Don’t forget to disconnect your battery before installing transient drive once you open up the laptop to replace the original drive. My mid-13 MacBook Air 256gb was almost full. Whilst reasonably technically literate, it was with some trepidation that I decided to go down this route and open up the innards of the laptop rather than just head to an Apple specialist (and pay double)...This was overall rather painless, and far quicker than I anticipated. Having read a number of slightly conflicting approaches on various websites, the following worked for me:- Formatting the new SSD using the standard IOS Disk Utility. 5 mins.- Installing Carbon Copy Cloner (Free trial) and copying all content across to new SSD. Took about an hour.- Following the useful YouTube guide by Tech Critter- “How to upgrade Mac SSD feat. Transcend Jetdrive 855” to check the SSD had indeed copied across and for the physical swapping of the new SSD from the enclosure into the MacBook Air (another 20 mins, but would only take 5 if you know what you’re doing!)Afterwards, a number of apps (Microsoft Office, Dropbox, Apple Cloud) needed re-registering etc.Whilst I’ve not run any benchmarks, even with the cheaper Transcend 825 rather than Transcend 855, I’ve noticed a speed improvement. All great, and I’ve now got over200gb of breathing space!Struggle a bit with restoration of my system but eventually I figured out a way around it...The only disappointment was the T5 screwdriver, broke before I finish putting the parts back. Had to purchase a new one from a third party vendorJust replace with previous SSD and enjoy.Save my live and money :)Highly recommended.Been using for a few months now and delighted with extra storage. Seems as fast as the apple ssd it replaced. Well done Transcend
