I bought a few of these Gigastone SSD drives to replace old spinning disks in old laptops. For a laptop thats maybe 5 or more years old that has limited memory (say 4 gigabytes) adding one of these drives can refresh the laptop and make it usable again. These SSD drives are so much faster than the spinning disks that they can use whatever maximum speed the drive interface of the laptop can muster and so even if you have limited memory, and the OS has to swap data, the swapping happens notably quicker.I've done several of these swaps and in my opinion, adding an SSD in place of a spinning drive in these older machines results in a perceived performance increase of about 30%. I've also noticed an increase in battery life as the SSD draws less power.I've had these Gigastone drives installed for about a month as of the writing of this review and they are solid performers.
